Do You Have the Skill Set to Become an In-demand Freelancer for Today’s Most Prolific Marketers?
I am so looking forward to this year — because I’m taking my freelance career in a new direction.
For one thing, I’m not just writing for companies and magazines any longer. I am now honoring my long-standing inner calling — to share what I’ve learned over my long freelance career with other writers.
To that end, I’ve created a new workshop specifically for writers — to help them create more enjoyable, stable, and lucrative freelance careers.
What’s more, over the last year I’ve identified today’s biggest marketing trend — which just happens to be an amazing business opportunity for freelancers.
In fact, it’s the biggest business opportunity I’ve seen in my entire 30-year freelance career.
Marketing Trends Over the Past Three Decades Kept Freelancing Lucrative
In the 1980s, the big marketing trend was newsletters — almost every company had one or wanted one.
I wrote articles for dozens of newsletters that decade on a range of topics — from marketing a doctor’s office, to global business development, to selling desktop computers.
In the 1990s, the big trend was websites — every company needed one, and they needed someone to write all of the content.
I wrote web copy for so many websites that I’ve lost count, including for banks, hospitals, and even Dell.
In the 2000s, corporate marketing was all about white papers. Companies wanted to combine selling and thought leadership into one document.
My best paying freelance project ever was writing a white paper for Compaq to promote its new slide projector.
The Next Big Trend in Marketing is Already Underway — and Set to Explode in 2014
So what’s the big marketing trend in the 2010s?
It’s been percolating since 2009 — and picked up steam in 2013.
But it’s poised to explode in 2014 — and when it does it will open up a world of writing opportunities for freelancers like we’ve never seen before.
Freelancer writers who are prepared to market their services in this area can ride the wave for as long as it lasts.
